WATERFRONT FEST

Celebs, foodies, musicians and artists slated for ’Welcome Back’

The 19th annual Welcome Back to Brooklyn festival promises a day of performers and celebrities equal to their spectacular backdrop - the waterfront. Comment.

A CULT CLASSIC

Three years ago, Italian actor-writer-director and comic cult hero Roberto Benigni made a huge splash on these shores with his Holocaust tragicomedy, "Life Is Beautiful," which made loads of money and won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, finally establishing Benigni to a wide American audience, something his earlier, distinctive physical comedies failed to do. NEW TERRITORY

Amid all the Middle Eastern shops and cafes on Atlantic Avenue, a new restaurant is introducing diners to the flavors of the middle-eastern seaboard. Comment.

OL’ MACK IS BACK

As their final tribute to the Kurt Weill centenary, the Champagne and Candlelight chamber opera company will present music from "The Threepenny Opera" and "Street Scene" in a double bill they’re calling "American Weill 2001." Comment.
